What to Do in Gympie these school holidays..

Gympie is an amazing place and one that you can do a vast array of activities, from fishing,  hiking, swimming to gold panning and loads more.   

 If you have just moved to the region or holidaying in the area this guide will help you know what you can do in Gympie and surrounds.

 Due to COVID-19 restrictions it is recommended to check if the activities are still running and the venue is open (It could be open but with different hours).

 

 So, what can you do?

  • Fishing (Beach/Sea and Inland) – It has been said that Gympie is an angler’s paradise, with all the variety of fish available. You can go boating to catch fish, fish on the beach or fish in freshwater rivers.  Inskip Peninsula, Rainbow Beach and the Cooloola Coast have nearly 100kms of fantastic fishing spots that is accessible nearly all year round.  Flathead, bream, dart, whiting, and tailor are some of the fish varieties that you can catch while fishing in the Gympie Region.

  • Tracks and Trails – Hiking, Biking and Walking can all be done on the many diverse trails and tracks that Gympie has available.
  • Heritage Walks/Trail – Take a stroll down the main street of Gympie (Mary Street) and enjoy the wonderful heritage buildings, wide streets, picturesque shops, and leafy trees. You can see the Lands Office Building (1873), The Town Hall (1890) and other historical buildings.
    Heritage Trails can be found in Gympie, Goomeri & Kilkivan, Mary Valley and the Cooloola Coast.

  • Dive with Sharks at Wolf Rock – If you have always wanted to dive with sharks then this is your chance. It depends on the time of year how many sharks you will see and if you visit in the winter months you might catch a glimpse of the humpback whale migration.

    The drive will allow you to take in the stunning sites and you might also get a chance to see dolphins, birds, turtles and whales.
  • Playgrounds - Lake Alford Park (A great all ability playground), Tin Can Bay Foreshore Park , Cobb & Co and The Gympie Jungle (An indoor play centre)
